Is sleeping in a hammock good for you?

We're not here to tell you if it's good for you or not, but we'll share our personal experience with sleeping in a hammock.

We (the Maca brothers) grew heading down to Campeche, Mexico every summer to spend time with our mom's side of the family (she was 1 of 8 siblings, so there was a lot of family to spend time with).

Often times when we were visiting Mexico, there weren't enough beds and my brother and I would sleep in hammocks. We quickly fell in love with sleeping in hammocks and grew to prefer it, to the point at which if there was a bed available we'd fight over who got to sleep in the hammock instead of the bed.

In this part of Mexico, most bedrooms are constructed to have several 'hamaqueros' built into the cement walls. An hamaquero is a steal plate with two holes where you'd place steal hooks on which you'd hang your hammock. This is what they look like:

Each room can typically hang two hammocks at once. They would hang above the bed, so you could have someone sleeping in the bed and two people sleeping in hanging hammocks.

You'd grab a blanket, jump into the hammock, and give yourself a kick off the wall and rock into a cradled slumber. We have family members that still prefer to sleep in hammocks to this day.

There seems to always be a hammock hanging at all times in case you want to escape the heat and have a quick siesta.

In fact, we remember hammocks were even used to rock our month old baby cousins to sleep. Who needs a baby crib when you have a hammock. Here is us as little ones..
